2016 has brought with it a wealth of sporting glory, especially to team GB. The Olympics is of course the huge talking point of the year, with Great Britain winning medals galore in Rio.
The huge success of the Olympic games may have overshadowed the other great sporting events of 2016 somewhat, however the games wasn’t the only sporting event that was nail-biting.
The Big Wins Keep Coming
Geraint Thomas, Chris Froome and Team SKY won the Tour De France, Manchester UTD won the FA cup and against all odds Leicester City won the Premiership, making some amazed gamblers very rich indeed.
Rio saw GB finish second on the medals table, ahead of China – a truly outstanding summer games.
Yet More Cycling Glory
We dominated the cycling at the velodrome in Rio as we proved once again that we are outstandingly good on bikes. Max Whitlock shone in the gymnastics taking three medals in total, we were incredibly proud to engrave his photo onto a couple of bottles to celebrate.
With the Paralympics about to get under way in Rio we can expect to see another outstanding performance from team GB once again.
Earlier in the year the second Invictus games took place, this time hosted in Orlando, Florida. The Invictus games celebrates injured members of the armed forces from around the world as they come together in the spirit of sportsmanship.
Of course summer wouldn’t be summer without Wimbledon, Andy Murray winning once again making this his second Wimbledon title.
More to Come?
There is of course plenty more sport on the way, the Ryder cup is just around the corner, where the USA take on Europe at golf. Of course the Premier league promises to bring yet more excitement, can Leicester achieve the seemingly impossible once again, will it be back to normal with big clubs dominating the table or is there another underdog out there looking to steal the spot light once more.
